Our Montessori approach

Child-led. Purposeful. Respectful.

Children are capable, curious and eager to learn. Our role is to prepare the environment, build trusting relationships and guide each child with care.

The prepared environment

A place where children can do meaningful things for themselves.

Montessori classrooms are designed around children’s needs and abilities. Materials have a purpose, the space is orderly and children have time to return to work, practise and build concentration.

A thoughtful space makes materials accessible, purposeful and cared for—inviting children to explore and take responsibility.

Observe, guide, support

Educators notice each child’s interests and readiness, then offer support and presentations that extend learning.

Choice with boundaries

Children make meaningful choices within clear, caring limits that protect safety, concentration and respect for others.

Respectful relationships

We speak with children warmly and clearly, recognise their efforts and give them time to participate for themselves.

Purposeful learning

Practical life, language, sensory exploration, early mathematics, creativity and movement are woven through daily experiences.

Learning at an individual pace

Children develop in different ways. We use observation and partnership with families to understand and support each child.

A thoughtful space

Accessible, purposeful materials invite children to explore, take care of their environment and build independence through everyday choices.

Montessori + EYFS

Two frameworks, held together by knowing the child.

At Play Studio, Montessori practice sits alongside the Early Years Foundation Stage. We use observation, purposeful experiences and warm interactions to support children’s learning and development across the areas of the EYFS.

The curriculum is not a race through activities. Educators consider what a child is ready for, build on what they know and help them grow in independence, communication, relationships and confidence.

In the room, you may see…

Ordinary moments. Purposeful learning.

A child choosing a work, carrying it carefully, repeating a task and putting it away. An educator observing before offering a clear, simple presentation. Children learning alongside one another, with guidance that protects dignity and concentration.

These ordinary moments are where purposeful learning takes shape.

Every child deserves to feel safe enough to explore.

We aim to create an environment where children feel they belong, are encouraged to try, and are supported through challenge. Families are partners in understanding each child’s needs and strengths.
